Workplace Violence Responder: Physical Disengagement Maneuvers 2-Hour Training

Length: 2 hrs  Course Code: UCLOLWPVRESPONDERPHYSICAL2-ILT Copyright: 2026
This hands-on instructor-led training teaches healthcare staff assigned to respond to alarms or other notifications of violent incidents, or employees whose assignments involve confronting or controlling people exhibiting aggressive or violent behavior, safe physical disengagement maneuvers for responding to aggressive or violent behavior. Participants practice techniques for maintaining distance, establishing a safe stance, releasing from grabs, and disengaging from common physical assaults while prioritizing personal safety and minimizing harm to patients and staff. Training reinforces de-escalation as the preferred response and presents physical disengagement as a last resort when verbal strategies are ineffective, safe withdrawal is not possible, and immediate safety is at risk. The two-hour course includes distance management, wrist releases, front choke defenses, uniform grip breaks, and defenses against hair grabs and bites. This course meets Cal/OSHA regulations (Reference: 8 CCR 3342).
